A vulnerability was found in Google Android up to 4.4.3/5.0.1/5.1.0/6.x (Smartphone Operating System). It has been classified as critical. MPEG4Extractor.cpp in libstagefright in mediaserver in Android 4.x before 4.4.4, 5.0.x before 5.0.2, 5.1.x before 5.1.1, and 6.x before 2016-07-01 does not check whether memory allocation succeeds, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device hang or reboot) via a crafted file, aka internal bug 28471206.
The weakness was disclosed 07/06/2016 as Android Security Bulletin - July 2016 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). The advisory is available at source.android.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-3766 since 03/30/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
