This security update resolves a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability could allow information disclosure when Windows Secure Kernel Mode improperly handles objects in memory.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 92020 (MS16-089: Security Update for Windows Secure Kernel Mode (3170050)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91251 (Microsoft Windows Security Update for Windows Secure Kernel Mode (MS16-089)).
Applying the patch MS16-089 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
