Cisco NX-OS on the Nexus 1000V does not assign the proper priority to heartbeat messages from a Virtual Ethernet Module (VEM) to a Virtual Supervisor Module (VSM), which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (false VEM unavailability report) via a flood of UDP packets, aka Bug ID CSCud14840.

The weakness was disclosed 05/28/2013 by Felix Lindner (FX) with Cisco as CVE-2013-1213 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at tools.cisco.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Cisco. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-1213 since 01/11/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
