A vulnerability was found in Apple tvOS up to 9.2.1 (Digital Media Player) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component WebKit. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. WebKit in Apple iOS before 9.3.3, Safari before 9.1.2, and tvOS before 9.2.2 allows remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy and obtain image date from an unintended web site via a timing attack involving an SVG document.
The weakness was presented 07/18/2016 by Roeland Krak (Mikhail) with Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions as HT206905 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-4583 since 05/11/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The advisory points out:
A timing issue existed in the processing of SVG. This issue was addressed through improved validation.

Upgrading to version 9.2.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
