The weakness was published 07/18/2016 by Chris Vienneau (Mikhail) with Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions as HT206905 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-4591 since 05/11/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
