Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader 6.0 allow remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a PDF file that contains an embedded Shockwave (swf) file that references files outside of the temporary directory.
The bug was discovered 10/12/2004. The weakness was released 10/13/2004 by Jelmer as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2004-1598 since 02/20/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
