Intel Crosswalk 20/21/22/up to 19 X.509 Certificate input validation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Intel Crosswalk 20/21/22/up to 19 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component X.509 Certificate Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Intel Crosswalk before 19.49.514.5, 20.x before 20.50.533.11, 21.x before 21.51.546.0, and 22.x before 22.51.549.0 interprets a user's acceptance of one invalid X.509 certificate to mean that all invalid X.509 certificates should be accepted without prompting, which makes it easier for man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers and obtain sensitive information via a crafted certificate.

The weakness was released 08/01/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared at packetstormsecurity.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-5672 since 06/16/2016.
