Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in TeamSpeak Server (affected version unknown). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component clientinit Command Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability.
The weakness was published 08/12/2016 by Hanz Jenson as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The vendor was not involved in the public release. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The advisory points out:
If we run the "clientinit" command twice, the server crashes with a failed assertion.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The advisory illustrates:
This is unfortunately a DoS at best since the retrieved parameter is just compared against "clientinitiv", which isn't terribly useful.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
