A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0/8.0/8.5/8.5.5 (Application Server Software). This vulnerability affects the function HttpSessionIdReuse. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 08/16/2016 as 1982588 / swg21982588 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-0385 since 12/08/2015. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
