The Doorkeeper gem before 4.2.0 for Ruby might allow remote attackers to conduct replay attacks or revoke arbitrary tokens by leveraging failure to implement the OAuth 2.0 Token Revocation specification.
The bug was discovered 08/03/2016. The weakness was disclosed 08/18/2016 by Justin Bull as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-6582 since 08/03/2016. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1211.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 15 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. Upgrading to version 4.2.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
