A vulnerability was found in QEMU (Virtualization Software) (version now known). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function megasas_dcmd_cfg_read of the file hw/scsi/megasas.c. The megasas_dcmd_cfg_read function in hw/scsi/megasas.c in QEMU, when built with MegaRAID SAS 8708EM2 Host Bus Adapter emulation support, uses an uninitialized variable, which allows local guest administrators to read host memory via vectors involving a MegaRAID Firmware Interface (MFI) command.
The weakness was released 09/02/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-5105 since 05/26/2016. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
