Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in PHP up to 5.6.24/7.0.9 (Programming Language Software). Affected is an unknown code of the file ext/session/session.c of the component Session Name Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
ext/session/session.c in PHP before 5.6.25 and 7.x before 7.0.10 skips invalid session names in a way that triggers incorrect parsing, which allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary-type session data by leveraging control of a session name, as demonstrated by object injection.
The weakness was shared 09/12/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-7125 since 09/02/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy.
