Details
A vulnerability was found in PHP up to 5.6.24/7.0.9 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function php_wddx_pop_element of the file ext/wddx/wddx.c of the component Base64 Binary Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The php_wddx_pop_element function in ext/wddx/wddx.c in PHP before 5.6.25 and 7.x before 7.0.10 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via an invalid base64 binary value, as demonstrated by a wddx_deserialize call that mishandles a binary element in a wddxPacket XML document.
The weakness was shared 09/12/2016 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-7130. The exploitation is known to be easy.
