A vulnerability has been found in ShoreTel Connect ONSITE up to 21.79.4311.0 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the file /authenticate.php. The manipulation of the argument username with the input value test'%20and%20(select*from(select(sleep(35)))a)--%20 leads to a sql injection vulnerability (Blind). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Iraklis A. Mathiopoulos and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 12 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:authenticate.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The advisory illustrates:
Specifically, the POST parameter "username" is not sanitised prior to being used in SQL Queries. Using test'%20and%20(select*from(select(sleep(35)))a)--%20 for the username value the server will respond after approximately 35 seconds.
Upgrading to version 21.79.9308.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at support.shoretel.com. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
