Avamar Data Store (ADS) and Avamar Virtual Edition (AVE) in EMC Avamar Server before 7.3.0-233 use the same encryption key across different customers' installations, which allows remote attackers to defeat cryptographic protection mechanisms and obtain sensitive client-server traffic information by leveraging knowledge of this key from another installation.

The weakness was released 09/21/2016 by Jakub Mleczko (poland) (Website). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-0904 since 12/17/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
