A vulnerability was found in IBM Security Privileged Identity Manager up to 2.0.2 FP7. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality. IBM Security Privileged Identity Manager (ISPIM) Virtual Appliance 2.x before 2.0.2 FP8 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary files or cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via an XML document containing an external entity declaration in conjunction with an entity reference, related to an XML External Entity (XXE) issue.
The weakness was published 09/26/2016 by ryan with IBM X-Force (Website). The advisory is shared at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-5971 since 06/29/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
Applying the patch 2.0.2 FP8 is able to eliminate this problem.
