Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 4.5.0 (Operating System). This issue affects an unknown function of the file drivers/infiniband/ulp/srpt/ib_srpt.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
drivers/infiniband/ulp/srpt/ib_srpt.c in the Linux kernel before 4.5.1 allows local users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) by using an ABORT_TASK command to abort a device write operation.
The weakness was shared 10/16/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-6327 since 07/26/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
