The IronPort Spam Quarantine (ISQ) component in the web framework in IronPort AsyncOS on Cisco Email Security Appliance devices before 7.1.5-106 and 7.3, 7.5, and 7.6 before 7.6.3-019 and Content Security Management Appliance devices before 7.9.1-102 and 8.0 before 8.0.0-404 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (service crash or hang) via a high rate of TCP connection attempts, aka Bug IDs CSCzv25573 and CSCzv81712.

This vulnerability can be exploited over the default ISQ ports, TCP port 82 or TCP port 83.
Upgrading to version 7.1.5-016, 7.6.3-019 or 8.0.0-671 eliminates this vulnerability.Addressing this vulnerability is possible by firewalling tcp/82-83 (ISQ). The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
A hard reboot of the affected system is needed to restore full functionality. (…) The IronPort Spam Quarantine Denial of Service Vulnerability can be mitigated by disabling the end-user access to the ISQ service. Administrators can disable this access using the interfaceconfig command. Alternatively, this can be done via the GUI by editing the settings for Spam Quarantine under Monitor->Quarantines-> Edit and then unchecking the option "Enable End-User Quarantine Access".
