A vulnerability was found in daloRADIUS 0.9-9. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file config-maint-disconnect-user.php. The manipulation of the argument username with the input value "; id; echo " leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 09/04/2016. The weakness was published 10/25/2016 by James Fraser and Avinash Duduskar as daloRADIUS 0.9-9 - Multiple vulnerabilities leading to arbitrary shell execution as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated with the project team. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1202 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by James Fraser/Avinash Duduskar in URL and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 45 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:config-maint-disconnect-user.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
