A vulnerability was found in Foxit Reader up to 8.0 on Windows (Document Reader Software). It has been declared as critical. Out-of-Bounds read vulnerability in Foxit Reader and PhantomPDF before 8.1 on Windows, when the gflags app is enabled, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted TIFF image embedded in the XFA stream in a PDF document, aka "Read Access Violation starting at FoxitReader."
The weakness was disclosed 10/31/2016 by Steven Seeley (kdot) with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is available at foxitsoftware.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-8876 since 10/21/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
Upgrading to version 8.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
