A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in cURL and libcURL up to 7.50.3 (Network Utility Software). This issue affects an unknown code of the component Cookie Jar. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a 7pk security vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-254. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. A flaw was found in curl before version 7.51. If cookie state is written into a cookie jar file that is later read back and used for subsequent requests, a malicious HTTP server can inject new cookies for arbitrary domains into said cookie jar.
The weakness was released 11/03/2016 with Cure53 as 7.50.3 vulnerabilities as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at curl.haxx.se. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-8615 since 10/12/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1211 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 7.51.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
