Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2004, and earlier versions, allows a virus or other malicious code to avoid detection or cause a denial of service (application crash) using a filename containing an MS-DOS device name.
The bug was discovered 06/25/2004. The weakness was presented 10/20/2004 by Sowhat (Website). The advisory is shared at secway.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-0920 since 09/27/2004. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
