A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg up to 1.2.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function ljpeg_decode_yuv_scan of the file libavcodec/mjpegdec.c of the component YUV Handler. The impact remains unknown.
The weakness was published 05/20/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as 38415 as confirmed bug report (Website). The advisory is available at patches.libav.org. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 0.8.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 38415 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at patches.libav.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
