A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in e107 CMS up to 2.1.2 (Content Management System). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file usersettings.php. The manipulation of the argument updated_data with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The bug was discovered 06/22/2016. The weakness was released 11/10/2016 by Kacper Szurek as e107 CMS <= 2.1.2 Privilege Escalation as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely.
