A vulnerability was found in MyLittleForum 2.3.6.1 (Forum Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects some unknown processing of the component Add User Page. The manipulation of the argument username/email with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Reflected). CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on integrity.
The weakness was disclosed 11/17/2016 by Tim Coen with Curesec Research Team as MyLittleForum 2.3.6.1: XSS & RPO as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the project team. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Required for exploitation is a authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by Tim Coen and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 2.3.7beta eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
