A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in WonderCMS 0.9.8. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the file /wonder/js/editinplace.php. The manipulation of the argument page with the input value <script>alert(1)</script> leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Reflected). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity.
The bug was discovered 11/16/2016. The weakness was shared 11/21/2016 by Manuel Garcia Cardenas as MGC ALERT 2016-006 / Reflected XSS in WonderCMS <= v0.9.8 as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The attack can be initiated remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by Manuel Garcia Cardenas and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:wonder/js/editinplace.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 0.9.9 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at wondercms.com. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
