Details
A vulnerability was found in Microsoft .NET Framework up to 4.5 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Permission Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 SP3, 1.1 SP1, 2.0 SP2, 3.5, 3.5.1, 4, and 4.5 does not properly check the permissions of objects that use reflection, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) a crafted XAML browser application (XBAP) or (2) a crafted .NET Framework application, aka "Delegate Reflection Bypass Vulnerability."
The weakness was disclosed 07/09/2013 by James Forshaw with Context Information Security as MS13-052 as confirmed bulletin (Microsoft Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-3132 since 04/17/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 67209 (MS13-052: Vulnerabilities in .NET Framework and Silverlight Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2861561)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90896 (Microsoft .NET Framework and Silverlight Multiple Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-052)).
Applying the patch MS13-052 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
