The bug was discovered 12/08/2016. The weakness was published 12/09/2016 by John Page (hyp3rlinx) as Symantec VIP Access Desktop Arbitrary DLL Execution as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-6593 since 08/03/2016. An attack has to be approached locally. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. VIP Access Desktop UI Manager invokes DLLs from the current working folder during startup. A malicious local user can create specifically modified DLLs to replace the normal product DLLs required during startup.
