The bug was discovered 12/22/2016. The weakness was presented 12/13/2016 by Ian Beer (daybreaker@Minionz) with Google Project Zero as HT207422 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-7660 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. Upgrading to version 10.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
