The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity.
The weakness was presented 11/07/2012 by Mario Heiderich, Krzysztof Koktowicz and Maxim Rupp with Cure53 as confirmed blog post (Website). The advisory is shared at blog.crypto.cat. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the project team. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-4106 since 06/12/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 2.0.22 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
