A vulnerability has been found in Open-Xchange OX Guard up to 2.4.2-rev4 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component guest Reader. An issue was discovered in Open-Xchange OX Guard before 2.4.2-rev5. Script code can be provided as parameter to the OX Guard guest reader web application. This allows cross-site scripting attacks against arbitrary users since no prior authentication is needed. Malicious script code can be executed within a user's context. This can lead to session hijacking or triggering unwanted actions via the web interface (sending mail, deleting data etc.) in case the user has an active session on the same domain already.

The bug was discovered 09/13/2016. The weakness was disclosed 12/15/2016 by Benjamin Daniel Mussler (Website). The advisory is available at packetstormsecurity.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-6851 since 08/18/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
