A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Google Chrome up to 54 (Web Browser). Affected is the function FrameView::updateLifecyclePhasesInternal of the component Blink. Blink in Google Chrome prior to 54.0.2840.59 for Windows, Mac, and Linux; 54.0.2840.85 for Android incorrectly allowed reentrance of FrameView::updateLifecyclePhasesInternal(), which allowed a remote attacker to perform an out of bounds memory read via crafted HTML pages.
The bug was discovered 10/12/2016. The weakness was published 12/18/2016 by Abdulrahman Alqabandi (Cloudfuzzer) with Tencent (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-5185 since 05/31/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/12/2022).
