A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in FFmpeg up to 3.1.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected is the function raw_decode of the file libavcodec/rawdec.c of the component SWF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability (Memory). CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The raw_decode function in libavcodec/rawdec.c in FFmpeg before 3.1.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or execute arbitrary code via a crafted SWF file.
The bug was discovered 12/23/2016. The weakness was presented 12/23/2016 with Qihoo 360 (Website). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-6671 since 08/11/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
