The bug was discovered 09/21/2016. The weakness was shared 12/23/2016 by YoungJin Yoon as [SECURITY] [DSA 3744-1] libxml2 security update as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-4658 since 05/11/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
