A vulnerability was found in QEMU (Virtualization Software) (version unknown). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function update_cursor_data_virgl of the component Virtio GPU Device Emulator. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. QEMU (aka Quick Emulator) built with the Virtio GPU Device emulator support is vulnerable to a memory leakage issue. It could occur while updating the cursor data in update_cursor_data_virgl. A guest user/process could use this flaw to leak host memory bytes, resulting in DoS for a host.
The bug was discovered 12/29/2016. The weakness was shared 12/29/2016 by Prasad J Pandit (Website). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-9846 since 12/05/2016. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
