A vulnerability was found in PHP up to 5.6.27/7.0.12 (Programming Language Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the file ext/wddx/wddx.c of the component wddxPacket XML Document Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. ext/wddx/wddx.c in PHP before 5.6.28 and 7.x before 7.0.13 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference) via crafted serialized data in a wddxPacket XML document, as demonstrated by a PDORow string.
The bug was discovered 12/12/2016. The weakness was shared 01/04/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-9934 since 12/12/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
