The "spiffy-cgi-handlers" egg would convert a nonexistent "Proxy" header to the HTTP_PROXY environment variable, which would allow attackers to direct CGI programs which use this environment variable to use an attacker-specified HTTP proxy server (also known as a "httpoxy" attack). This affects all versions of spiffy-cgi-handlers before 0.5.
The bug was discovered 01/10/2017. The weakness was disclosed 01/10/2017 by Peter Bex (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.gnu.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-6286 since 07/22/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Upgrading to version 0.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
