CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in PHP (Programming Language Software). Affected by this vulnerability is the function xml_parse_into_struct of the file ext/xml/xml.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

ext/xml/xml.c in PHP before 5.3.27 does not properly consider parsing depth, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted document that is processed by the xml_parse_into_struct function.

The weakness was presented 07/10/2013 as 65236 as not defined bug report (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at bugs.php.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-4113 since 06/12/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68973 (Fedora 19 : php-5.5.0-2.fc19 (2013-12977)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 43551 (Juniper JUNOS J-Web: Multiple Vulnerabilities (JSA10804)).

Upgrading to version 5.3.27 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.php.net. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 1 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13198.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (85584), Tenable (68973), SecurityFocus (BID 60731†), OSVDB (95152†) and Secunia (SA54069†).
