A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome up to 55 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Extensions API. The extensions API in Google Chrome prior to 55.0.2883.75 for Mac, Windows and Linux, and 55.0.2883.84 for Android incorrectly handled navigation within PDFs, which allowed a remote attacker to temporarily spoof the contents of the Omnibox (URL bar) via a crafted HTML page containing PDF data.
The bug was discovered 12/01/2016. The weakness was published 01/19/2017 by Abdulrahman Alqabandi (xisigr) with Qihoo 360 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-5218 since 05/31/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
