A vulnerability was found in Apple watchOS up to 3.1.2 (Smartwatch Operating System). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component IOHIDFamily. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. The bug was discovered 12/13/2016. The weakness was presented 01/23/2017 by daybreaker@Minionz with Trend Micro as HT207487 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-7591 since 09/09/2016. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The advisory points out:
