A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 50 (Web Browser). This vulnerability affects the function mozAddonManager of the component CSP Header Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a redirect vulnerability (Extension). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-601. A web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a Redirect. This simplifies phishing attacks. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 01/24/2017. The weakness was disclosed 01/24/2017 by Muneaki Nishimura (Alex) as MFSA 2017-01 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-5389 since 01/13/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1204.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 51 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
