Google Chrome prior to 56.0.2924.76 for Windows insufficiently sanitized DevTools URLs, which allowed a remote attacker who convinced a user to install a malicious extension to read filesystem contents via a crafted HTML page.
The bug was discovered 01/25/2017. The weakness was disclosed 01/25/2017 by Armin Razmdjou (Paul) with Tresorit as Stable Channel Update for Desktop, January 2017 as confirmed release notes (Website). The advisory is available at chromereleases.googleblog.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-5011 since 01/02/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
