xmlhttp.php in MyBB (aka MyBulletinBoard) before 1.6.18 and 1.8.x before 1.8.6 and MyBB Merge System before 1.8.6 allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via vectors related to the forum password.

The bug was discovered 11/10/2016. The weakness was presented 01/31/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-8973 since 11/17/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
