A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in libgit2 up to 0.24.2. Affected by this vulnerability is the function git_oid_nfmt of the file commit.c of the component Object File Handler. The git_oid_nfmt function in commit.c in libgit2 before 0.24.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference) via a cat-file command with a crafted object file.
The bug was discovered 10/08/2016. The weakness was published 02/03/2017 by Gustavo Grieco (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-8569 since 10/08/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
