A vulnerability was found in ATutor up to 2.2.1 (Learning Management Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the file install_modules.php of the component ZIP File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. Impacted is integrity. Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in install_modules.php in ATutor before 2.2.2 allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of users for requests that upload arbitrary files and execute arbitrary PHP code via vectors involving a crafted zip file.
The bug was discovered 03/07/2016. The weakness was released 02/07/2017 by mr_me as EDB-ID 39524 as confirmed exploit (Exploit-DB). The advisory is shared for download at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-2539 since 02/23/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
