A vulnerability was found in BusyBox up to 1.24.x. It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown functionality of the component DHCP Client. The manipulation of the argument OPTION_6RD with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. Heap-based buffer overflow in the DHCP client (udhcpc) in BusyBox before 1.25.0 allows remote attackers to have unspecified impact via vectors involving OPTION_6RD parsing.
The bug was discovered 03/11/2016. The weakness was released 02/09/2017 by Matt (Website). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-2148 since 01/29/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 1.25.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
