A vulnerability was found in libvirt 1.0.6/1.1.0 (Virtualization Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function qemuAgentGetVCPUs in the library libvirt. Double free vulnerability in the qemuAgentGetVCPUs function in qemu/qemu_agent.c in libvirt 1.0.6 through 1.1.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via a cpu count request, as demonstrated by the "virsh vcpucount dom --guest" command.
The weakness was disclosed 07/16/2013 by Petr Krempa with Red Hat as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-4153 since 06/12/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at libvirt.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
