Honeywell Experion Process Knowledge System input validation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Honeywell Experion Process Knowledge System (Knowledge Base Software) (affected version unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

An issue was discovered in Honeywell Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) platform: Experion PKS, Release 3xx and prior, Experion PKS, Release 400, Experion PKS, Release 410, Experion PKS, Release 430, and Experion PKS, Release 431. Experion PKS does not properly validate input. By sending a specially crafted packet, an attacker could cause the process to terminate. A successful exploit would prevent firmware uploads to the Series-C devices.

The bug was discovered 10/27/2016. The weakness was published 02/13/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-8344 since 09/28/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
