A vulnerability was found in MuPDF 1.10a (Document Reader Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function fz_subsample_pixmap of the file fitz/pixmap.c of the component Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Heap-based buffer overflow in the fz_subsample_pixmap function in fitz/pixmap.c in MuPDF 1.10a allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and crash) via a crafted image.
The bug was discovered 02/15/2017. The weakness was published 02/15/2017 (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.ghostscript.com. A possible mitigation has been published 4 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
