A vulnerability has been found in SimpleSAMLphp up to 1.14.10 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function SimpleSAML_XML_Validator of the component SAML 1 Response Handler. The SimpleSAML_XML_Validator class constructor in SimpleSAMLphp before 1.14.11 might allow remote attackers to spoof signatures on SAML 1 responses or possibly cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by leveraging improper conversion of return values to boolean.
The bug was discovered 12/03/2016. The weakness was published 02/17/2017 by Thijs Kinkhorst (Website). The advisory is shared for download at simplesamlphp.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-9955 since 12/15/2016. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
